The Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department continually recruits for new members. The calling can be a fulfilling, exciting, and truly meaningful way to forge lifelong comrades and to contribute to the community at large. Applications are available at the main office in Berwick’s Town Hall. Members of the BDVFD hold several fundraising events throughout the year. What We Do

Established in 1915, the Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Department now serves approximately 100 square miles of district, providing fire prevention and protection to various types of industry, farms, fishing villages, processing plants and residential neighbourhoods. Members respond on average to over 100 alarms per year. The Department offers:

  • Membership of 50 active volunteer firefighters with varying degrees of training
  • Standard first aid and CPR
  • Emergency first responders
  • Level I firefighting
  • Fire cause investigation
  • Nova Scotia Firefighters School

  • 1996 1050 g.p.m. pumper #1 with foam capability
  • 20071050 g.p.m. pumper #2
  • 1988 1500 gallon tanker #5
  • 2000 3800 gallon tanker #4
  • 1983 Fire/Rescue with cascade air system
  • 1994 Portable pump truck (4 X 4)
  • 2010 4x4 Ford F250
  • 1923 model T bickle fire truck, originally owned by the Berwick Fire Department, purchased and completely restored as a memorial to the Department's veteran members

Meetings

  • Monthly meetings are held on the last Monday of each month
  • Training for members is held every Monday evening
